Nothing could be more valuable to a young believer than to be mentored and discipled by an older and more mature one. This is what the apostle Paul did for Timothy. Paul loved and guided this young man, not only by seeing him come to faith, but by continuing to empower and encourage him with increasing levels of responsibility. Timothy is listed as co-author with Paul of half of his epistles, and he is ultimately entrusted with the responsibility of leading the church of one of the most significant cities in the world. How can a young man possibly have the wisdom to fulfill such an awesome task? Paul offers so much wonderful counsel, which benefits not only first century Timothy, but 21st century us as well.
