How comfortable are you in your ability to articulate the gospel? Would you know what the most important things are to share with a friend who needs to know Jesus? The Romans Road is a great way to hit the most important things in a clear and simple way:
First stop: There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Rom. 3:22-23)
To get well, we first have to face the grim news. We are all sick in soul. All men are sinners before a holy God. And God’s glory is the standard, not our standing in relation to other people.
Second stop: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 6:23)
As sinners we are under a death sentence. All men die for all men sin. And death isn’t just physical; it is spiritual as well. But the good news is God doesn’t repay us according to our works (which would mean death), but offers us the free gift by his grace: Christ Jesus out Lord.
Third stop: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved….. (Rom. 10:9-10)
How do we receive the gift? We believe in our hearts and we confess with our lips. We don’t just say we believe, but we truly do believe in our hearts. And we don’t just believe in our hearts, but we also declare that good news. Those who do so can be assured that they are saved.
This is a clear and simple way that any of us can learn to believe the gospel and share it with others. Take a few minutes to walk down the Roman Road yourself and grow in your confidence to share Christ with those you love.
