David reflects in Psalm 8:3-4, “When I consider the works of your hands, the moon and stars that you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him?” No doubt David considered these kinds of things while he whiled away the hours on a hillside outside of Bethlehem tending his father’s sheep. Would David have even wrestled with these questions if he had had a television or a smartphone? If David had been distracted by cat videos, or political memes, would he have contemplated the great questions of the universe and man’s place in it? Does our culture’s perpetual distractibility make it more difficult to believe? The answers to these questions are self-evident. Let’s take time to consider.
